Noor Play in New York City

Bridge Theatre Group and FringeNYC present

SOUNDWAVES: The Passion of Noor Inayat Khan*

a new play by Joe Martin

*Semi-finalist, ONeill National Playwriting Festival

Based on a true story, SOUNDWAVES: The Passion of Noor Inayat Khan is a play about a young Sufi woman of Indian descent, a childrens writer, musician and daughter of a great Indian musician and Sufi master, who flees her fathers spiritual center in France in before the Nazi onslaught. This devotee of Gandhis non-violence re-emerges as the heroine of the French Resistance known as Madeleine and one of the most highly honored heroes of the struggle against Nazism in France and England whose only weapons was a radio.

SOUNDWAVES: The Passion of Noor Inayat Khan was presented in October 2012 as a staged reading in readers theatre format at the Brecht Forum in New York’s West Village.

The international Italian theatre information/review website Teatroteatro.it praised the performance for […] mov[ing] between detailed historical description, on the one hand, and the parallels of spiritual and Islamic mysticism on the other, and concluded that […] SOUNWAVES fascinates and enchants the audience with the beauty of its text and the energy of its cast.

The play is a homage to Noor Inayat Khan and functions as a reminder of the power of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violent resistance. Noor is a symbol for spiritual and moral values in times of crises, a paradigm for the fight against evil without losing one’s integrity.
